About the Forum:

The Horizon Industries Forum series asks: What will our economy look like in 5 to 10 years, and how can we prepare our workforce for the jobs of the future?

Tourism is a core and growing industry in Los Angeles County, especially for the Westside. L.A. ranks as the second-most-visited U.S. city for international travelers, and is in the top five for U.S. residents. According to LA Inc., tourism-related industries are the second leading employer in the county, providing nearly 275,000 jobs. The dozens of hotels in the Westside have seen increasing demand and rising room rates, even as new hotels are slated to open over the next couple of years.

Clearly, the hospitality and tourism sector will continue provide a huge variety of high-quality jobs in our region, but is our education and job training system ready to effectively prepare people to fill them? The purpose of the Horizon Industries Forum is to gather information about where the sector is headed in the future, what kinds of career paths will be available, and what skills will be most necessary for workers to succeed in those jobs. This event will bring together senior executives of hotel, travel agency, and tour bus companies with other visionaries to evaluate the future of this cutting-edge field and extrapolate how its workforce needs will evolve over the next decade. The audience will include interested business executives, education and workforce-development professionals, and civic leaders from around Southern California.

This free event is part of our ongoing series of Horizon Industries Forums, which are presented as a project of the Westside Economic Collaborative and the Westside Workforce & Education Partnership.
