The Westside cities include Beverly Hills, Culver City, Malibu, Santa Monica, West Hollywood and Los Angeles (Bel Air, Brentwood, Century City, Hollywood, Pacific Palisades, Mar Vista, Venice, Westwood, West L.A., Wilshire).

Home to world-famous shopping and cutting-edge architecture, the Westside Cities, serve as a base for advanced new media development, all phases of the entertainment industry, and professional services. UCLA, Otis Art Institute, Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount Universities, as well as Santa Monica College's Academy of Entertainment and Technology, supply a creative workforce to the County's design-based industries. The UCLA Medical Center is the largest research facility in greater Los Angeles.

Culver City

Culver City has strengthened its position as a desirable location for entertainment related companies, such as Sony Studios. In fact it ranks fourth in the nation for per capita expenditure by the entertainment industry. The retail industry is also a strong component of the local economy. Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills, famous for its celebrity mansions, Rodeo Drive and haute couture has an image that revolves around tradition, quality and style. Additionally, it has an internationally recognized corporate address that has enticed 26 major companies to establish headquarters in Beverly Hills, including professional services firms (talent agencies, law firms, etc.) and financial institutions that support the entertainment industry, as well as many other multinational enterprises.

Los Angeles

The Los Angeles areas of the Westside also have a substantial variety of industries including an impressive array of tourist attractions. World-famous Hollywood draws millions of visitors per year. It is currently enjoying a renaissance, with many exciting mixed-use developments underway. There is never a dull moment in the artist community of Venice Beach where inline skating is the preferred method of transportation. Westwood is best known for being the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) neighbor, and its shops, theaters and restaurants reflect college students taste for high-quality, cool fun. Century City's theater, office and hotel complex supports a thriving cultural and business center. Both West Los Angeles and Century City also have a strong mix of retail, hospitality and professional service industry.

Santa Monica

Santa Monica is a hot spot for multimedia and Internet companies. Its beaches and first-class restaurants, along with its high-quality work force are just a few of the factors behind this trend. The Santa Monica Pier, the Third Street Promenade and other areas of the community have recently been revamped and now offer something for everyone. Santa Monica also has its own municipal airport. Santa Monica is home to over 12,000 businesses with over 1,100 of them located in retail revitalization areas know as business improvement districts (BIDs).

West Hollywood

West Hollywood known as the "creative city" with its trendy nightclubs, gourmet restaurants, boutiques and unique lifestyle, has become a thriving business location and year-round recreation area. The Pacific Design Center has helped distinguish West Hollywood as the interior design capital of the Pacific Rim.

Los Angeles County

L.A. County consists of 88 independent cities including Los Angeles. The area is constantly challenged by a myriad of social problems but its strong economy and the visible restoration throughout the city have created new optimism.

Los Angeles’ great economic diversity makes it a leader in the aeronautics, entertainment and tourism industries. Although know for its glitz and glamour LA is largely a blue color industrial town and has the nation’s heaviest concentration of manufacturing jobs, ranging from low wage clothing production to advanced military aircraft assembly to cutting-edge ventures in various high-tech realms. Many people work at jobs that pay little more than minimum wage.

The service sector has become the strong point of the economy. More than 32% of jobs are related to services concerning finance, administration, commerce, personalized services, and high-tech industry and liberal arts professions. The real estate industry developed alongside the construction industry.
